Having been together nearly eight years (a whopping 2,890 days!) before locking things down, it’s no wonder that Kayla and Ben (first featured in issue 15)had a clear vision of their hopes in life, in love and on their special day. “We knew right from the beginning that we wanted our wedding to be under the stars as we love the ambience an outdoor wedding creates. For us, atmosphere, amazing food and drinks and a lively dance floor are what make an unforgettable wedding reception,” says the bride, describing the celebration as “contemporary luxe with a romantic vibe”.

“Being at the end of April, the weather was a bit cooler which at first concerned us but ended up really helping to influence our theme. Our florals were beautiful deep berry shades combined with greenery and we had dark wood furniture mixed in with the most amazing mint green couches. It all just worked really well to create a formal and chic looking wedding without feeling traditional or stuffy,” explains Kayla, who credits The Butcher, The Baker, The Stylist & Creator as being the brains behind the day’s rad styling.

“Jess Butcher was phenomenal!! She is so talented and brought a genuine level of excitement and passion to our planning right from the first meeting. I don’t think we ever knocked back one of her suggestions and there was nothing that we suggested that she didn’t think would work. She really was the perfect fit,” Kayla tells us, adding that the blooms by Fox & Rabbit, as well as Ben’s speech, made up some of her most cherished memories of the day.

“He had told me earlier in the night that he was really nervous about doing it, especially after everyone else had read theirs as they were all amazing, but he completely surprised me and all of our guests. I think he delivered the most amazing speech I have ever heard. He didn’t read a single line, was really funny and had the audience eating out of his palm…he was also super sweet and left me in tears (happy ones!) and even managed to change the words to my queen (Beyonce’s) song ‘All The Single Ladies’, complete with dance moves.”

Along with choosing Childish Gambino as their recessional song, some super notable dance floor efforts (including a ‘worm’ which ended in a head wound) and a near disaster that could’ve ended in one very important dress being doused in some very red wine, these newlyweds agree that they wouldn’t have changed a thing about their wedding day, captured by Through the Woods We Ran. “It honestly was perfect and anything that didn’t go exactly to plan, we didn’t notice…we were just so happy!”
