If you believe in reincarnation then you might wonder whether Genevieve and Jase were wedding planners in another life. Despite spending most of their time either in the water or at school (Jase is a professional bodyboarder and Gen is a teacher), it seemed this pair, first featured in issue nine, barely broke a sweat when it came to organising their epic south coast wedding.
Held at Gen’s family home in Meringo, New South Wales they literally built their dream day from the ground up. “We basically constructed the whole wedding ourselves (which includes both of our families and a tonne of friends). From the imported marquee we bought from America, to the dance floor and bar which we chopped, welded, and screwed together. The toilets, the lighting, the fire pits, the benches, every table – it was all made in the big lead up”, says Gen ever so casually.
Beautiful white and green blooms occupied every spare space, the marquee provided shelter from the sun and a cold drink and comfy seat were never far from sight. “The theme followed the natural rustic, relaxed surroundings of our farm on the beach, with attention to detail from so many incredible friends and family who put their love into it.”
Looking incredible in her Lover gown and brightly coloured floral crown, Gen tells us, “I didn’t have a clear idea of the dress I wanted but I knew I wanted something with lace and something to suit the setting of our wedding. I had seen Australian fashion label Lover and their White Magick Collection online and I fell in love with all of their pieces. The moment I tried on the Jasmine dress I knew it was perfect. I purchased it on the spot.”
Her arrival at the end of aisle was a particularly poignant moment and one of Gen’s favourite memories along with her husband’s speech. “His words were so beautiful and I felt so lucky to be his girl”, she says, also thankful that legendary photographer Mitch Pohl and cinematographer Tom Coburn were there to capture every moment of their beautiful, homegrown day.
A day that now serves as an important reminder to us all that while you can’t choose your family, you can choose your friends, so if you’re getting hitched (which we’re guessing you are) make sure they’re as handy as this bunch!
