Perhaps the only thing that could top Alison and Hugh’s choice of vendors was their venue. “Glenfield House was built in 1816 and is one of the most well preserved examples of Georgian architecture in Sydney”, says Alison of the property owned by Hugh’s parents. “As well as the main house there is a dairy-bake house, a barn, a privy a paddock and beautiful gardens. The property has a lovely, hidden orchard down one side where we had our ceremony. It has a tennis court where we put up the marquee for our reception and a barn area where there were canapû?s, a Jazz band and lawn games!”
Returning to their team of vendors however (which included legendary photographer Lara Hotz, it was Sheree of She Designs Events and Jardine of Jardine Botanic Floral Styling who brought the place to life with beautiful blooms and a plethora of pretty props. “We wanted a style and vibe that reflected the historic farmhouse – lots of greenery and nature with a rustic and relaxed feel,” says Alison who wore a custom dress by Australian designer Philippa Galasso and a garter made by her great grandmother and worn by her grandmother, her mother and her two aunts when they got married. “It was old, borrowed and blue!”
Following a comedy of errors in the week before the wedding (dry cleaning disasters, spelling mistakes) Alison and Hugh were please when the actual wedding transpired without a hitch. With Baker Boys Band ensuring that nobody left the dance floor it was even better than either of them could have ever hoped.
