Taking a weekend for them to relax and unwind, Zane saw his and Kate’s night away at Dreamers in Mount Beauty as the perfect proposal opportunity. “He surprised me with an amazing custom made cushion cut diamond and rose gold ring that he secretly got made with the help of my best friend- I was in complete shock. He had even organised to have champagne and canapû?’s waiting for us when we got back to the accommodation. We both decided that we didn’t want to tell anyone that we had gotten engaged for a few days so we could take it all in by ourselves. It was very romantic.”
Dreaming of a venue with a boho feel – something a little different than your typical wedding location – the pair landed on Byrchendale in Victoria. “I literally searched online, saw the venue (had instant chills) showed Zane- said ‘this is the one’- we didn’t look at any before or after- we knew that this was it,” explains the bride, who wanted to combine both of their styles for the day to make it really personal.
“Zane is a little bit vintage, and I am a little boho so we put those themes together and come up with our wedding theme; vintage bohemian romance. I really wanted the vibe to be a little big magical (hence with all the mixed metals and the floral hanging) but also masculine at the same time. The romance I feel came across with the dark woods, and obviously our love story was to shine through. I also really wanted guests to feel a fun and relaxed vibe on the day- and find it casual and laid-back like us as a couple.”
The couple teamed up to take on a boatload of DIY thanks to the bride’s business venture, One Day in March. “We both handmade our trestle tables from vintage pine flooring- I really wanted something that was strong and dark and thought we could take it on- made with a lot of blood sweat and tears? and love!! I collected all of the vintage vases, and mixed metal glassware for the two years of the engagement from thrift and antique stores. I had a polishing day with all of my girlfriends to get everything shining,” Kate tells us, adding that the lovebirds learned to reupholster chairs, made their arbour and did all of the floral arrangements!
Having designed her own dress, made by a local dressmaker, videography by Hello May fave Bottlebrush Films and photos by legend Mitch Pohl Photography, Kate and Zane were well taken care of in the vendor department. “Mitch Pohl was the first vendor that I locked in. I had found him on the Hello May blog and instantly fell in love with his shooting of Stephanie and Jack‘s Barooga farm wedding. Mitch really stood out- I think we both had the same vision and feel for the photographs, and he was so easy to work with.”
