Talk about teamwork! Together with their parents, Signe and Dan (two of our lovebirds from issue eight) did all the decorations for their day of good times (signs, centrepieces, shell place cards, aisle pillars, bunting – the lot!) £My favourite detail of the wedding was the amazing D + S frame my dad had made for us, says Signe who was happy to make a head start on most things.
£It’s never too early to start planning and finalising details, she advises, admitting that she’d secretly been ogling dresses on Pinterest for some time. Luckily it wasn’t too long before Dan proposed and she had a reason to step inside Rue de Seine’s store. The first dress I tried on, mum picked. It was the Eve Gown by Rue de Seine and it was the one.
Married at a friend’s property in Ferry Landing, an easy two minute boat ride from Whitianga on New Zealand’s North Island, Dan clearly set the tone for their casual day in shorts and sneakers.
£Our main aim of the day was to have something relaxed and casual, where friends and family could kick-back and celebrate with us while having an awesome time wearing jandals, playing cricket and eating fish and chips by the beach. Hell, guests were even encouraged to doodle on their place mats if that’s what they felt like.
They did however incorporate a few formalities, including a traditional tiered wedding cake and a first dance. £I’d had a few lessons so surprised her by knowing what I was doing, says Dan proudly.
£He’s a total keeper, says Signe, and rightly so. Not only did he learn some new moves, he agreed to hire legendary photographer Danelle Bohane and was genuinely concerned when her sister hurt her head.
Dan sheds some light on this last one as he tells us £a few weeks before the wedding, Signe’s sister sent through a text message saying I just walked into a bus hit my forehead and might need to wear a boho bandana to hide my bump.’ Of course we erupted in laughter, and skyped each other to see this unicorn bump she spoke of… turned out to be nothing on the day, but who walks into a bus!?
