Kassy (who you may recognise from the cover of issue nine) decided to ignore superstition and make her own wedding dress – and, get this – she did it in just four days (yes, days!) £I sourced vintage fabrics from the markets of Paris and French laces which I found in Australia. It is all lace with a small train, lace sleeves and a high neck, she says of her incredible creation.
In contrast, it took almost three years after announcing their engagement for her and Cris to leave their romantic place in Paris and return to Alverstoke Barn in Western Australia with photographer Loren Ioppolo of Nectarine Photography, where they eventually tied the knot.
£It was difficult to decide from abroad but we knew we wanted something vintage? we found this venue online and went to see it on one of our trips back to Australia, it was the perfect blank canvas! says Kassy who along with Tapa-licious Events Catering and Kristy Farrelly of Pretty Willow Prop Hire, went above and beyond to create a stylish, Spanish inspired celebraciûòn.
£Cris and his family are Spanish so we incorporated many aspects of the Spanish foods and wines and culture as possible. We sourced lots of beautiful cheeses from Spain and France, and lots of lovely accompaniments such as wild Spanish olives and chorizo. My favourite part was the leg of jamon Cris’s mum helped us source and gifted to us and which stood on her old jamon stand from Spain, circa 1960’s!
With so much salami (and let’s not forget their epic, three story cheese tower), Kassy and Cris figured they should also give their guests something sweet. £My mum and sisters spent hours using home grown organic figs and plums to make the delicious jams. My mum also designed the labels, says Kassy.
The one thing that stood out even more than their handiwork and Kassy’s wild and rustic bouquet by Zest Flowers was the words she spoke during the ceremony. £During the ceremony, I said my vows to Cris in Spanish (I don’t normally speak Spanish) and by the end of the ceremony we had all shed a tear or two! Then during the speeches there were more tears? we were so lucky to be surrounded by such beautiful family and friends!
Friends and family who we have no doubt will be hoping they decide to stay still for a little while, even if it is just to drink wine and eat cheese.
