Eleanor and Tom appear to live a life many only dream of – one that isn’t incredibly complicated. Rather than a grand proposal, they made a mutual decision to marry and soon went about organising their wedding in a similar fashion.
“We wanted the day to be as relaxed as possible. We didn’t want it to be formal or showy, we questioned each tradition instead of just following the norm. It was important to us to have lots of kids at the wedding, good home made food and an awesome dance floor”, says Eleanor whose sister-in-law catered the entire event (minus the cupcakes, crackles, cookies and lamingtons Eleanor made).
Held at St Kilda Sports Club in Victoria and captured by photographer Beck Rocchi, guests were encouraged to have a drink, play bowls and have their face painted, if that’s what they felt like. For Tom however, who looked ever so handsome in his Oscar Hunt suit, one of his favourite moments was dancing to Miley Cyrus’s Party in the USA. “Sad, but true!” he admits.
Luckily Eleanor had anticipated that things might get a little wild. “My main criteria when designing the dress was that I could move freely enough to go nuts on the dance floor with Tom. I loved the way it looked in the photos, and I felt amazing on the day. Mum whipped the dress up the week before the wedding! She is amazingly talented and I am incredibly lucky to have her. She put a tag on the inside of the dress that reads £happiness is homemade – I couldn’t agree more.”
