If you’re suddenly experiencing a sense of Deja Vu, it may be because you read Issue 3 of our magazine, where these two beautiful humans were first featured. With so many more stunning images to share however, we thought their story deserved a re-run.
After a long courtship before walking down the aisle, Rhys and Desta thought of their wedding day as more of a formality than anything. But with a misty mountain setting at Kenilworth Homestead, a multitude of DIY projects (including the bride’s dress), this couple surprised even themselves with the festival atmosphere they were able to pull off.
Making everything from the table settings, bunting and even a hula hoop chandelier, Rhys and Desta (along with some very dedicated family members and friends), spent a lot of time creating some of the most lovely DIY projects you will ever see.
The day was captured by talented photographer, Tricia King of The Itchy Eyes, and they were married by Paul Voge, quite possibly Queensland’s most handsome celebrant, just two of the vendors that Desta attributes to making their day so unforgettable. “I’m so happy with every single one of our vendors. Everything was so easy and relaxed – a testament to the professionalism of all of our vendors. When I had my small sporadic, moments of stress I only had to speak with one of them to realise that I didn’t have anything to worry about. And on the day, it definitely didn’t feel like it was a client/supplier type relationship – having them all involved was like having friends help out,” she says.
Of course, we had to get the low-down on Desta’s dress, which was created by her sister, and headpiece, by florist Natashia Westrop of Heavenly Blooms. Desta tells us, “the dress was designed and made by my uber-talented sister, Safa Itote, owner/designer of AMIRA. This is the first wedding dress she had ever made, so the pressure was on. I think the end product really speaks for itself but as far as client satisfaction goes, I can’t imagine wearing anything else.”
Despite the constant downpour that forced their entire ceremony inside, Desta and Rhys enjoyed a day that they will never forget. A day so jam-packed with joy that we feel very blessed to have been able to share it with so many of you, our dear readers. If you would like to see or read even more about their picture-perfect day you can still collect a copy of Issue 3 here – it’s the perfect remedy for this cold, winter weather!
