Raama and Dobsy recently tied the knot on the beach in beautiful Barwon Heads. For those of you scratching your noggins wondering where this quaint little seaside village is, head to Torquay and instead of hanging a right along The Great Ocean Road, turn left and follow the signs to this delightful part of the world. It’s the kind of town where sauce is still free with your sausage roll and the local community hall is the go to reception venue for relaxed family affairs like this one.
This gorgeous bohemian style wedding, shot by the talented Jess of Brown Paper Parcel, was the very essence of DIY… even the beer and wine were lovingly homemade by the groom and his dad. In fact the only things that seem to be store bought are the bride and grooms outfits. Raama wore a beautiful Grace Loves Lace dress made of the finest and softest french lace and silk you ever did see and Dobsy suited up in Rodd and Gunn pants, a Jack London shirt and the sand between both their toes.
Of their DIY wedding, Raama explains “Dobsy is very creative and handy with his tools, so he made the arch for our ceremony and the polaroid frame from some seaside wood (free from the side of the road). He also made all the blackboards. Together we dreamt up and created our rustic/shabby chic/ boho theme. Basically we just collated a whole lot of stuff we made and also sourced from local op shops and the internet with no particular theme in mind, other than to surround ourselves with things that we felt inspired by and loved. We actually used a lot of the furniture and rugs from our home to save on costs and resources. We did have a local florist, Moss Industry Weddings, put all the decorations up in the hall as we couldn’t access the hall until the afternoon of the wedding.”
Even the wedding favours, jars of delicious jam.. When quizzed on the recipe all Dobsy will tell us is “Raama’s mother made all the jam, she tells me it’s secret, but the balance lies within the quantity of sugar.”
