Take a look at these two, will you? Cute and quirky, their plan to have a ‘non-wedding, wedding,’ a Mexican Fiesta. They nailed it- starting with D&D Letterpress, who set the tone for the fun-filled wedding from the beginning with those gorgeous invites. The rings were by one of our talented directory vendors, Jason Ree (also the bride’s uncle) and Charlotte topped it all off by wearing an epic colourful floral gown. Their friend and photographer, Luisa Brimble was there to make the memories last, so scroll down for all the pics…

THE PROPOSALWe became engaged over a game of hangman. Diego took me away for my birthday to The Longhouse in the Hunter Valley. We talked about getting married often. There was a chalkboard wall at the house, where we’d been playing hangman all weekend. It was my turn, and so I decided to hangman ‘will you marry me?’ Diego took one look and knew what I had written straight away. He said his guess out loud, which meant that he is the one that asked me! Haha.”

THE VENUEI really wanted to get married on a country property- somewhere we could stay, have the ceremony and the reception all in the one place. Then we found Bernie and her beautiful Wallalong House. It was the only venue we visited in the flesh, and we were mesmerised. It was also the most affordable venue, incredible value for money, and so beautiful, too.”

THE VIBEOur inspiration was to have ‘a non-wedding-wedding’ and all of our vendors were given that brief. I bought a colourful dress and we began calling it a Fiesta. Inspired by a long lunch with shared food that flows into outdoor games and finishes with a Mexican feast and fiesta. LOS GUAPOS. Colourful, delicious and full of love. The best compliment we received was someone describing the day as a ‘Baz Luhrmann film’. Mission complete.”

FAVOURITE DETAILSD&D Letterpress designing our invites in perfect fiesta fashion (we sent them 10 months out, saving money on save the dates), place cards and all signage- right down to the cake and gelato flavours. The cakes! There were nine in total, baked by the incredible Nadine Ingram and her team at Flour and Stone. They disappeared within minutes. Our gorgeous friends from Gelato Messina gifted us a gelato cart and I am proud to say that we also got through four flavours and 280 scoops! And the flowers from Jardine Botanic, who took our brief and made it her own, exceeding all of my expectations and making my heart so full.  I cannot recommend her highly enough.”

THE DRESS My dress was from Temperley Bridal in London. I found the brand online during my hunt for a colourful, non-traditional frock, and I became obsessed with their embroidery. They custom made the dress for me (they’ve since added it to their latest collection) and my first fitting was when I went to pick up the finished dress in London.”

CUTE CUSTOMIn terms of family traditions, my grandfather started my family’s jewellery store Jason Ree with my uncle, Jason. He passed away some time ago, but wearing the rings handmade by Jason made it feel in some way that Papa was there with us, and we feel so honoured to be wearing them every day.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Jardine Hansen (of Jardine Botanic) is magic. She created some of the most wonderful moments- flowers bursting with colour and delight everywhere we turned. She also made all of my Frida flower crown dreams come true. Luisa Brimble-this incredible woman not only gave us 200 images by 9pm on the day of our wedding, but we had all 1500 edited images within 48 hours. INSANE!”
