After sealing the deal with a stunning Natalie Marie ring last July, Suze and Liam set out to bring a concept they called ‘the simple wedding’ to life when it came to celebrating their big day. “I call Liam ‘Mr. Simple’, it’s a personal joke but at the same time it’s our personal ethos and philosophy that we live by and so that’s how ‘the simple wedding’ was born. We believe in supporting local people and creatives, and reducing wastage so that was a huge part of our wedding. Almost everything was Australian made, locally sourced, upcycled or recycled,” says Suze, having decided on a celebration that was quite close to home (literally).

“We wanted to keep it simple and local, and after moving into our house exactly one year before the wedding and noticing the two big beautiful jacaranda trees in full bloom in our new backyard, we thought it would be a great idea to have our reception at home.”

Continuing with the theme of simplicity and salvaging, it’s no wonder that Suze sought out Lost in Paris Bridal to create her custom gown. Specialising in ‘dresses laced with history’, Lost in Paris focuses on restoring and refashioning fabrics, expertly crafted on century-old machines no longer in operation or handmade with love by Nanas long passed, into one-of-a-kind frocks for the eco-conscious bride.

“Ahh the dress! I began following Lost in Paris when one of my best friends was getting married over five years ago. I love her ethics and ability to give new life to old fabrics, and while I did first visit some bigger bridal boutiques, I found my experience with Lost in Paris to be so much more down-to-earth. They had a beautiful sample dress on the racks made from a 1920s silk piano shawl that was everything I had dreamt of and more. And lucky for me, they had just enough of that fabric left to make a custom dress for me!”

A day truly dedicated to honouring “a partnership of best friends navigating their way through this crazy journey called life”, Suze and Liam’s nuptials featured a whole slew of memorable moments – including a special performance by the groom at the reception (Suze had no idea she’d married a rockstar!) and, most fondly, the huge sense of relief when the pair laid eyes on one another at the ceremony. “We giggled and chatted through the whole ceremony and it was such a special, intimate moment. Even though we were surrounded by people, it felt like we were the only ones there.”

Suzz and Liam’s NSW wedding was originally featured in our third annual Real Wedding Special, on sale now and stocked in newsagents nationally. Search for your nearest stockist via suburb or postcode here, or shop online with Mag Nation or via the HM online store here.
