A freelance designer and fashion tutor, it’s no wonder Sarah decided to take on the challenge of designing and making her own wedding dress. Despite the heaps (and heaps) of work and her gown being the biggest of all the DIY projects, we think it’s pretty safe to say that it was well worth the effort.
“The embellishments on the bodice were entirely hand cut, fabric stiffened and stitched and left myself and two of my bridesmaids to two hours of sleep two nights before the wedding as we stayed up to frantically get them finished,” explains Sarah, who says she and groom Melfred sought inspiration from the bright and bold colours of Kate Spade New York, along with pops of navy and gold.
“It is so hard to pick one favourite detail. The flowers made such an impact to both the ceremony, reception and bridal party – so that would have to be a big one. And then probably the gold cutlery and charger plates,” says the bride, who utilised vendors like Willow Bud and Gold Wedding Hire to bring her vision to life.
Sarah and Melfred also opted for a standout photographer (and one of our all-time faves), Luke Going Photography, who the couple tells us he, no doubt, went above and beyond. “He brought along a second photographer for no extra charge, stayed later to make sure he incorporated all the key details from our reception and also was a great person to hang out with us all.”
