Inspired by long lunches and epic family dinners, Sally and Dan, one of our couples from issue eight, were hell bent on a relaxed wedding reception at the beautiful Ataahua Garden Venue. Sally tells us, £The lead up the wedding was so chilled, we both had an equal play in the planning and deciding what we wanted as we have a similar aesthetic so decisions were easy.”
This casual approach left Sally, a textile design student, plently of time to focus on her wedding gown, which was custom designed and made for her by the talented Soontariya Utto, a long time uni friend. Sally tells us, £The dress took two months and 10 days to make, including 400 hours of beading. Sure 400 hours sounds like a lot, but once you take into account the 15,000 individual sequins that were hand stitched on to the gown along with 3,000 small silver diamantû?s and 250 glass jewels it all starts to make sense. And according to Sally, it was time well spent, as she names £seeing my dress become a reality as a favourite moment in the planning process.
Fast foward to the ceremony, and Dan’s favourite moment came with some quiet time alone in the chapel, listening to the band rehearse Oceans’ before his beautiful bride swanned down the aisle, which was decked out with bouquets from Shaye Woolford of On My Hand, one of New Zealand’s premier florists.
Once safely outside Bethlehem College Chapel, Sally and Dan took to the hills of Tauranga, located in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty, for some quiet time with their photographer Danelle Bohane. One quick look at the spectacular scenery and we can see why Sally and Dan wanted to keep things simple. New Zealand’s mind-blowing landscapes were decoration enough.
