Often less is more and for Matisse and Zack, an intimate wedding with 30 of their closest family and a spread of delicious homemade dishes and deserts was more than enough for them to create their ideal day.
“We both agreed that we wanted an eclectic feel, much like the way our home is decorated, and a venue that was rich in natural beauty as well so that we could have the ceremony outside without having to do too much decorating.We really wanted a wedding that reflected who we are and even though I come from a huge extended family and sort of liked the idea of having a huge party type celebration we knew we would never be able to afford a wedding for 130 people and it suited us more to have something more relaxed and intimate, so we cut it down to 30.”
Held on a private residence in a town just west of Noosa, Queensland Matisse and Zack decided to fly photographers Lauren and Glenn from Still Love all the way from Western Australia to capture their day that was filled with DIY. “…pretty much the whole family was employed in various tasks”, says Matisse, explaining how together they designed their stationery, sewed bunting, arranged flowers and spent days baking.
Of her gown she tells us, “I knew I didn’t want to buy a dress straight from a shop but I was also worried that I wouldn’t be able to convey my ideas to a dressmaker without some confusion.” But then she met Paul from Alla Moda. “… he not only got my ideas but he made them better. It probably took about two – three months for him to finish it and each time I went to see him and the dress I could see how much he loved what he was creating and that made it so much sweeter. I would get him to sew my whole wardrobe if I could.”
