Sit back, relax, and let us take you back to the story of Kay and Dion. First featured in Issue four, we took one look at this couple and, like anything sweet ending in chocolate, knew they belonged in the Hello May family. Since sharing them on our Instagram page too, it’s clear that their love for each other didn’t just rub off on us.
If ever a proposal set the tone of a wedding it was this one! “The proposal was very relaxed,” says Kay. “It was a standard weeknight at home, sitting around playing with our son Miles on the floor and out of nowhere Dion said to me, ‘I wanted to marry you after two weeks of dating’. He then got down on his knee and asked me if I would be his wife.”
It’s this relaxed, laidback vibe that the couple, together for three years, carried through to their wedding day at Penny’s Hill Winery in stunning South Australia.
Wearing a backless blush pink Jenny Packham gown, Kay exchanged vows with Dion with just their closest crew of relatives with them. “We have both never wanted a big wedding so we had a very small ceremony with just our immediate families. If we had to pick a vibe we would say relaxed, spending it with our nearest and dearest, with great food and wine.”
Kay and Dion both agree having their son Miles present helped make the occasion special. “The whole day just flowed perfectly, there was no stress or nerves,” said Kay. “We had fantastic weather and our son helped to make the day so special. Our celebrant Jayne Kelly kicked us off to an amazing start, she is truly talented at what she does.” The couple also had high praise for the staff and food at Penny’s Hill.
Talented photographers David and Shona of The Robertsons had a ball photographing Kay and Dion on the grounds of the winery, including capturing some beautifully-lit images inside the old barn. It was a stroke of luck too that the groom was able to muster his strength for the cameras, says Kay. “Unfortunately Dion came down with gastro the day before the wedding, not so funny at the time but we can laugh about it now. He managed to pull up quite well on the day. Thank god!”
