If you’re ever lucky enough to find yourself in the company of this playful pair from our first annual Real Wedding Special, just make sure you’re somewhere outside (and preferably not standing downwind). £It really is about farting on the couch and laughing about how bad farting is, but you do it anyway, Katia says when asked about her views on marriage.
But despite a gentle, passing wind, Katia’s thoughts on the day as she made her way down the aisle were somewhere else. £When we locked eyes, I was thinking? £Oh my gosh, we are doing this and I am going to marry my best friend. There has been no greater experience till this day. Following their ceremony, Katia excitedly made her way to the bottom of the church stairs with a celebratory rail slide before heading to South Australia’s popular Glen Ewin Estate with James and their photographer Nikki Langmead.
It was here that Katia and James had planned a beautiful and elegantly styled reception by Fleurs De Nadia and Sash Events of which Katia tells us, £James and I have always been interested in classic vintage, admiring the movie icons of the past. I think we just wanted to see timeless photographs. Finding the right photographer to achieve that look contributed to our theme. Overall, we wanted the wedding to have this warm, glowing feeling where guests could walk away feeling as though they were transported somewhere different for a few hours of their lives.
With romantic, festoon lighting, floral inspired stationery and some innovative tipi-style table decorations, Katia and James certainly pulled off a wedding reminiscent of times gone by. It was her dress, designed by Paul Vasileff of Paolo Sebastian however, that earned Katia more compliments than Gisele Bundchen’s butt cheeks. £I had grown up with Paul and it meant a great deal getting him to design and create my dress, he knew what I liked and what would suit me. It was a two year process from my first consultation to the day of the £pick up. The dress had modifications made over the couple years, but essentially the design remained the same.
In fact not a lot changed at all during their reasonably lengthy engagement. Katia and James simply stuck to their own advice which was, in Katia’s words, £Do what you want, embrace what you love and be true to yourselves as a couple.
