A London-based couple getting married in Victoria, Kate and Stuart organised their wedding from quite a way’s away. Though it was probably a pretty stressful planning experience, it sure did leave them with some silly stories to tell. “We flew in from London for the wedding and I travelled with my dress as carry-on. I clutched it protectively and played the bride card to the cabin crew in the hope they would hang it carefully? and maybe give us an upgrade. It worked, kind of – my dress had its own first-class seat and we remained seated in economy.”

Originally from Melbourne, the couple did their fair share of online research before finding their perfect venue, the Royal Melbourne Yacht Club Squadron. Kate and Stuart tell us that even though they had a church ceremony followed by a sit-down dinner, the day was incredibly relaxed.

“We pretty much free-styled the entire ceremony and bypassed any traditions that felt weird to us, including the first dance – it felt like punishment to make our guests watch us dance awkwardly for a full three minutes. Instead, we got our immediate families, bridal party and their partners to join us for the first song,” explains Kate, who rocked a Rime Arodaky bridal gown.

Captured by photographer Bek Smith, these lovebirds were pretty pleased with how their day turned out. “As you can see from the extreme grinning in our pictures, the whole day was powered by giddy joy. I think back most fondly to when we arrived at the venue and had 15 minutes in the bridal suite with the bridal party – it was probably a mix of the unfettered access to a private supply of drinks and canapes, and the promise of the whole night to come.”
