Being a designer (Jasmine) and photographer/cinematographer (Derryck), it’s unsurprising that their engagement and wedding would be a beautiful blend of elegance and humour.
On her first visit to Australia with (then) boyfriend Derryck, the pair made a trip to Observatory Hill in Sydney to watch the sunset and take in the beautiful view, when Derryck handed Jasmine a note, “at the end there was the line £There’s one more thing you need to decide?.. Then he was on bended knee.”
Whilst the couple reside in Shanghai, they decided to host their big day in the land of Oz, as Derryck grew up here. The groom laughed off the fact that his American bride forgot to apply for an Australia Visa! “You could literally see the blood draining from her face,” Derryck said.”We whipped out the laptop at the check-in gate and actually managed to fill in the visa form and get it approved online in 10 minutes. Crisis averted, the wedding is on!”
Despite planning the wedding from abroad, the couple discovered the gorgeous, intimate grounds of Collits Inn as their reception venue, whist the ceremony took place at the beautiful ithgow Hoskins Uniting Church.
As far as the dress hunt went, Jasmine explains she didn’t have to look to far, being one half of the label Arete. ‘The hand-embroidery took at least 100 hours of sewing, the dress is priceless. The dress was not in my hands until I was leaving for the airport? which can explain why I forgot to apply for my visa to Australia?” The bride laughs.
With the dynamic duo, Grace and Tim from Willow & Co there to capture the day, we couldn’t be more in awe of the gorgeous photography, and of course, the stunning Blue Mountains scenery.
As far as advice for future brides and grooms, Jasmine and Derryck have hit the nail on the head: “Memories don’t catch the fine details, they capture the feeling.” Jasmine added that the pair wrote hand written notes to all their guests prior to the day, which were placed at the reception tables. “The purpose was to let all of our guests know how much they meant to us during the party, to really show how much we cared, and to enhance everyone’s feeling of joy while we were all still together celebrating.” What a gorgeous idea!
