So you have picked up your copy of issue two of Hello May magazine and you’ve seen, being the kind and generous folk our parents raised us to be, that we are giving away a full day wedding photography package for every state* in Australia.
Valued at a whopping $4000** each, that’s $28,000 worth of photographic goodness. The competition is open to any couple set to tie the knot in 2014 who are yet to book their wedding photographer (ie: if you have paid a deposit with another photographer you are not eligible to enter).
You are here now because you have devoured issue two and read up on what you have to do to be in the running to win such a bounty, and now you are keen to know a little bit about the couple behind the TAS prize…
It is our great pleasure to introduce you to the lovely Fred and Hannah, of Fred and Hannah Photography. Not only were Fred and Hannah nice enough to donate their time, talents and skills to one lucky reader, Hannah also took some time out of her busy schedule to sit down and have a chat with us so you could get to know a little more about the creative souls potentially charged with the task of committing your wedding day to film, or pixels as technology would have it. Take it away Hannah…
How long have you been taking photos? I purchased my first camera when she was 7, it was an awesome hot pink clunky thing with a Minnie mouse motif on it. Fred got his first camera when he was 12, an old boxy Nikon point and shoot.
Best thing about shooting weddings is… Hanging out with each other as people celebrate one of the happiest days of their lives around you. Witnessing the raw, and unexpected emotions that arise. And partying like it’s no ones business!
What’s your all time favourite reception location to shoot at? Living in Tassie we’re a little spoilt for choice really. Not sure we could pin point just one location, although we’re pretty fond of private rural properties off the beaten track, more cows and sheep the better!
Describe your shooting style in 3 words. Intimate. Fun-tastic. Ninja
Last time you cried at a wedding? It wasn’t that long ago, back in April. When we both shed a few tears at a reception during the speeches. It made our faces stretch with smiles and laughter, our hearts burn with cuddles of love. Twas beautiful. The amount of love bouncing the room that night would make even the hardest man cry.
Advice for those of us who can get a little nervous in front of the lens? Sure you’ll have two people stalking you with sounds of ‘Cha-kunk cha-kunk!’. But just try and be yourselves. Tease each other, play, do what you normally would do and then we’ll disappear. It sounds cliché, but just try and relax.
All time fave ‘first dance’ song… We haven’t stumbled across a favourite yet, but we are quite partial to the idea of a couple gettin’ down to a legendary disco boogie, perhaps Sex Machine by the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. “Take me to the Bridge! HUH!”
Talk to us about one of your fave weddings, pictured below… There is no better wedding in our eyes, than one filled with awesome love, fun and intimacy. We’ve been so fortunate to experience this in abundance. One wedding in particular was the wedding of Anna + Murray. These guys from the start were a super awesome rad pair. They were happy to just kick it in front of the camera. Letting us do what we do and taking us on their roller coaster ride.
It’s a surprise we were still smiling at the end of the day as our cheeks were tired from all the laughing shenanigans that went on. All in all, not hard for us to see why we love what we do. When it comes down to it, we love all the effort, amazing details, and locations a wedding can have. But nothing beats great company and a little bit of romance. We’re suckers for a good love story.
Thank you Hannah! If you are keen to check out more of Fred and Hannah’s work you can pay their website a visit here, follow them on Pinterest here, and stalk them on Twitter and Tumblr respectively, here and here.
We are all about supporting local business here at Hello May and think it would be great if you could head on over to Fred and Hannah’s Facebook page and give them an enthusiastic thumbs up, as they will be announcing the TAS winner here on Monday 12 August, 2013.
