Picture this: instead of the big shebang of a wedding, you and your partner celebrate your ideal first date. Pizza and a movie after a day of adventures was the go for Sydney couple Esther and Jack. “I was keen to elope and Jack wanted a wedding,” the bride tells us, “so we compromised to have a non-wedding, and instead invited everyone to our perfect date night.” A date night that was held at none other than the factory floor of the Hello May office!

To tie in with the movie theme (Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet of course), Esther and Jack embarked on some pretty epic DIYs, including handcrafting those incredible neon crosses that littered the warehouse space. “Oh man! that was about a week of solid work! Wire battery powered light strings, styrofoam crosses and foil!” Not to mention the gorgeous florals and entire wedding planning came from The Sisters, of which Esther happens to be one half of! “My sister and I do weddings for a living so to have complete creative freedom to make something breathtaking and being able to watch people enjoy it was amazing.”

Having worked in the industry for several years, Esther admits she knew from the get-go who she wanted there to celebrate and capture the big day. “The BFG Mitch Pohl, what a photographer, perfect images and he took extra time out to shoot details the day before when everything was set up! Honestly he is the best wedding photographer out there!”

With the help of Grew & Co, Esther and Jack designed the perfect engagement ring. “The whole experience turned out to be so special. I technically never got an engagement ring as by the time we finished designing it, it was a month out from the wedding. We waited until the wedding day to put our rings on. I am still in awe of my ring! I adore it,” mentioned the bride, who wore a Chloé inspired gown.

Jack mentioned one of the stand out moments of the day was when his bride-to-be rocked up at his place as he and his groomsmen were getting ready. “We didn’t plan a big unveiling moment but Es came down and texted me that she was out the front. We just cuddled, she looked the most beautiful I’ve ever seen her!”

The pair agreed one of their favourite decisions was to forgo the traditional ‘walking down the aisle’. Instead, Esther, her parents, Jack and their best buds walked together at Sunrise Nursery in Helensburgh. “We all rocked up together and walked down as a big group, it was so much more relaxed and fun!”
