If you’re a Sydneysider then The Grounds of Alexandria – an awesome cafe village turn farmer’s market located next door to Sydney’s CBD – probably rings a bell. Or perhaps you’re just a loyal follower of Hello May (we’ve featured a handful of weddings held there!) and so you can imagine our excitement when Dan (Art Director at The Grounds) and his lady Ange’s wedding held at Summerlees Estate arrived in our inbox.
“I’d researched a few places on the internet and Summerlees was the one I liked best, so we checked that one out first and loved it, so I thought why bother spending a bunch of weekends looking elsewhere? Lock it in,” says Ange, who boldly rocked a two-piece bridal set including a Rue De Seine top and skirt from The Babushka Ballerina.
Inspired by the idea of vintage, bohemian garden party, Ange and her eight bridesmaids spent the lead up to the wedding co-ordinating seven (yes, seven!) different prop-hire companies, arranging flowers and organising 100 rosemary wedding favours. “Rosemary is the symbol of love and loyalty, so I bought 100 Rosemary plants from a lovely lady named Maria at the Sydney Flower markets.”
Despite a few hiccups along the way, including Ange leaving behind her bridesmaids shoes (a short hour and 45 minute drive away) the day itself went ahead as planned and photographer Alex Marks (the legend behind our issue 10 cover) got all the bits and bobs on film – including one of the funniest and most memorable moments.
“Nothing beats riding into the reception on a pushbike and completely stacking it in front of our 150 guests! Dan ended up on his head and I was lying on the grass in my pretty white dress but what a great memory!”
