There was nothing conventional about the wedding of Tui and Jimmy. Walking down the aisle was even to traditional for this bride-to-be and she arrived at the feet of her groom on a flying fox (seriously!), they held a picnic reception using tree stumps for tables and rode off into the sunset on a tandem bicycle.
Shot by New Zealand wedding photographers, Tori and Sal, Tui tells us one of her favourite moments was “when our friends rode the tandem bike down to us while we were having our photo shoot – such an awesome gift that meant we got some very special photos.”
So what was with the flying fox? Tui explains “Jimmy builds flying foxes for a job we thought it could be a fun way to the make my entrance memorable & being ‘us’ which is what we wanted to do for the whole day.”
Never one to shy away from a bit of DIY, Tui and Jimmy go the whole family involved. Tui says “my mother in law, sister & law & a family friend sewed the flags, all my girlfriends made the tin lanterns, my Mum & her friend decorated our teepee, my girlfriends stamped all the favour cards & name tags. I planted the favours from seed & my friends and cousins potted them in tins for me, my dad cut the the tree stump tables…” and the list goes on and on! We love that each “table” got their own picnic basket to share and enjoy and one look at these gorgeous photos will tell you good times were had by all.
